We have visited hundreds of clients who want ponds installed in their garden. Some want to spend their Saturdays relaxing in the sun with a glass of wine; others want to spend a few hours wildlife hunting with their children; while a few want a social space to enjoy with friends and family. (Sounds lovely, doesn’t it?)
We get great satisfaction from creating something beautiful from nothing. To be able to bring your dream pond to life is even better. Nothing beats that feeling knowing that a customer’s dream of the "perfect" pond has turned into a reality.
Pond building is a specialist area, and we want to create something that is visually stunning, architecturally pleasing and artistically appealing.
Digging the hole and installing the edging is the easy part and the "dig-a-hole-stick-a-liner-in" is a million miles from our approach. There’s so much more to creating a beautiful, low-maintenance pond than that and the passion of our team on-site brings our specialism, professionalism and creativity to your dream pond design.

Koi fish is a hugely popular addition to any pond, across the world. We love building koi ponds, and we are a specialist at it! We can cater for any build or design; please give us a call to book an appointment with Michael Wheat himself to discuss you koi pond needs.
What are Koi Fish?
Despite contrary belief, koi originally have a Chinese origin. Koi is a food source before the Japanese bred them for their aesthetic appeal from the mid-1800s.
Koi varieties are distinguished by colouration, patterning, and scale variation.
In Japan, the most popular variety of koi is the Kohaku, a red and white koi. In the United States, the most popular variants are the Kohaku, the Taisho Sanke, and the Showa Sanke. (The Taisho Sanka and the Showa Sanka are both red, white, and black.)
Any pond is a beautiful addition to any garden, but with a little thought and consideration about the design and construction, your beautiful pond can become a haven for different wildlife and animal life.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society, in the last century, 70% of the UK countryside has lost its ponds – which means that the use of a wildlife pond to encourage and nurture wildlife is more important now than ever.
Animal Life and Wildlife Ponds
A pond (and water) is essential to wildlife, and many creatures will make use of your pond:
Frogs, toads and newts will even use small bodies of water to breed
Caddisflies, damselflies, dragonflies, mayflies, pond skaters, snails and water beetles breed in water
Large ponds will support waterfowl, including mallard ducks, moorhens and coots
Birds (e.g. swallows and house martins) will pick off insects from above the water surface; they will also use muddy areas for nest building
The grey heron can be a regular visitor to even a small pond, feeding on wildlife like fish Even grass snakes may be seen hunting in garden ponds.
